》The State of Alaska
Your childhood home torn down in favour of a condo development. A loved one gone too soon. A once close friendship ended. Singer-songwriter Alaska is familiar with the pain of loss and lingering regrets and utilizes that familiarity to craft anthemic pop for the downtrodden. As the forests of British Columbia burned in the summer of 2017, Alaska sat in a motel room with two friends trying to find a way out of William’s Lake. All the roads were closed, the airport was on fire and the bus station was «closed until further notice». Trying to make the best of a tough situation, the three friends wrote poetry and threw glitter-fuelled motel room birthday parties until a school bus took them to safety in Prince George. This was the inspiration for The State of Alaska’s newest single, «Bushfires», to be released on July 1st, 2018. The song is dedicated to those friends and the city of Prince George for their strength and heroism.
Aussie transplant Chelsea Reed proves that evocative lyrics and accessible melodies transcend borders as her formative experiences in Newcastle, Australia now infuse the musical brew she is creating in Toronto, her new home. This triple threat (singer, songwriter, pianist) is preparing to launch her first full-length recording, recorded with the guidance of respected Canadian producer, Dave Draves (Kathleen Edwards, Jim Bryson) in October 2017. The album takes the listener through the psyche of this self deprecating but playful twenty-something, exploring the universal themes of connection and purpose through a unique lens, with songs written by Chelsea herself, along with co-writes with some of Toronto’s sought after songwriting veterans.
