Nick Novak Fellowship Exhibition
Botanique is part of an ongoing body of work that explores Stewart’s long fascination with utopian architecture, the early history of photography and notions of archiving and collecting.
Stewart has been photographing and researching Victorian conservatories as utopian architectures not only for their formal attributes of construction but also as sites that position and re-position the natural world. While they stand as museums, monuments, and theaters, nature undergoes a process of displacement, diminution and transplantation, lodging the glass structures in our collective memory as a replacement for Eden.

Beyond Statistics: The Artifacts of Inflation
Don Phillips Scholarship Exhibition
Beyond Statistics: The Artifacts of Inflation continues Heather Thomson’s visual and historical research into the German Papiermark, a currency that was notoriously volatile following World War I. Thomson feels discussions on hyperinflation Germany focus on statistics and disregard the physicality of currency. For Thomson the banknotes embody complexities of the inflation period and she strives to highlight their physicality through magnification, focusing on the intricate designs she considers beautiful. She invites the viewer to observe minute details and presents Papiermarks as art objects with stories to tell, moving them beyond statistical value.
All exhibitions will be on from January 11 – February 9, 2019
