Beat the winter blues with Compassion on the Streets.
clothing swap and bake sale!!!
Do you like FREE stuff and have a passion for helping others and reducing landfill waste? This event is for you!
Bring your gently used clothing and accessories to help people living on the streets of Toronto!
This Sunday, Compassion on the Streets is hosting an event to raise funds and collect items for our care packages that bring much needed relief to folks who are currently experiencing houselessness and braving the winter months.
Earn a raffle ticket in exchange for your donations and take home your favorite clothing and accessories or get a chance to win a few cool prizes! Raffle tickets will also be available to purchase for more chances to win! And can be exchanged for GF brownies!
There’s no entrance fee — but don't forget to bring cash for raffle tickets and for our bake sale! — we will have delicious Guten-Free Plant-Based brownies and other finger-foods! We will also have tea and coffee! Please do your best to contribute with items that are needed the most for our drive (suggestions below*).
SPECIAL ITEMS: Any great vintage or designer items or clothing of higher value will be available for a special raffle ticket. If you are bringing a special item, you will receive a special ticket (let us know at the door!). Special tickets will also be on sale for $10/each.
Regular raffle tickets will be on sale for $2/each.
Summer clothing will be free and will not require any tickets, so please help yourself to as many as you'd like!
The event will run from 4:30 pm — 7:30 pm at the Ralph Thornton Community Centre.
We will be open for early drop-offs starting at 9:00 am (call phone number at event door).
All proceeds and donated winter items will go towards and distributed during our monthly Compassion on the Streets outreach event coming up on January 20th!
Raffle ticket contributions and other donations will go towards buying the most needed items.
*Most needed items list:
Thermal socks, mittens, gloves, shoes, toques, jackets, pants, belts, long johns, sweaters, new underwear, sleeping bags, and anything else that can help people out and about in the winter months.
To best serve our friends, we will only be accepting clean, gently worn items.
Please note we are aiming to be as environmentally-friendly as possible, and so, we will be making an effort to buy second hand and sustainable materials as much as possible. Also, Compassion on the Streets does not discriminate by species and only handles animal-free garments (no-fur, no-skin, no-wool, no-silk, etc).
Come join us for some great vibes, treats, “shop” sustainably, reduce your waste by giving a meaningful purposes to garments you no longer use, support fellow humans and extend your compassion to all beings and our planet.
**Please contact any of the organizers/hosts if you'd like to volunteer at this event or at our drive or if you have any other items you'd like to donate, like non-perishable food, money donations, time to help with research and organization, logistics, etc.
